General Information
For this particular treatment, our chiropractor will have you lie on a table made up of two mechanized panels. Connected to the table is rigging that gently pulls your spine. Throughout the treatment, one half of your body is pulled in one direction. At the same time, the other half of your body is pulled in the other. As a result, your spine elongates slightly, as this is a gentle treatment. Any pressure on the discs is then reduced during this treatment. An increase in blood flow can then reach the spine when it was previously hindered as a result of swelling or impingement.
Uses
Spinal decompression is useful if the discs that separate and cushion the vertebrae are bulging or herniated. Our Lebanon, MO, practitioner will see if this treatment could benefit you after a comprehensive evaluation. First, our chiropractor will review your medical history and check for any conditions that could affect the safety and efficiency of this treatment.
Next, our practitioner will thoroughly assess you. You may be asked to bend frontward and from side to side. Our practitioner will want to know when you feel pain, what worsens it, and if it interrupts any aspects of your life.
Our practitioner will assess your back for any swelling and visible signs of a problem. In some cases, our chiropractor will perform an X-ray before your treatment. This testing allows our practitioner to better assess the cause of your discomfort and back pain to plan a treatment for you.
Safety
For most people, this treatment is safe. In a majority of cases, when you have spinal decompression therapy at our office, few to no side effects will occur. If you should happen to have any, they're usually mild and may include an achy or dull soreness. This side effect tends to lessen over time as you receive more therapy sessions.
At Back to Health Chiro, serving Lebanon, MO, and the neighboring communities, our Dr. Crocker may recommend spinal decompression if you have an injured disc or another similar health issue. It's a natural treatment that can promote healing through various means.
