Allergy Testing

At Back to Health Chiropractic of Lebanon, MO, we offer a variety of allergy-related services in addition to our chiropractic ones. Dr. Melani Crocker, our resident chiropractor and allergy expert, believes the most important of our services is allergy testing. Identifying allergies is one of the best things anyone can do to keep themselves safe, especially if they have an immune disorder.

How Does Allergy Testing Work?

Allergy testing is done in a couple of different ways. The first is a skin test. This is where the target allergens are put under the skin in small amounts. Sites are then monitored by your care team for any symptoms that may indicate an allergy, including but not limited to swelling, redness, and itching.

The other test is a blood test. This is for patients whose skin tests were inconclusive and those who are at risk of a severe allergic reaction. Some blood is drawn and sent to a lab. Tests are run for allergen-fighting antibodies that are present in normal, healthy blood. If they are not present, the patient will experience allergic reactions. These results are sent back to your doctor, who then relays the appropriate information back to the patient.

These processes can be mildly uncomfortable, but they are well worth it. The doctor will educate patients with allergies about the causes of their symptoms and how to avoid them in the future. Those in the Lebanon, MO, area experiencing or concerned about experiencing allergic symptoms should contact Back to Health Chiropractic to set up a consultation with Dr. Crocker.

Who Should Get Tested?

Anyone concerned or unsure about their allergies should get tested. If a person is experiencing allergic symptoms, but cannot identify the source of the irritation, they should get tested. If a person is experiencing symptoms that don't clear up with the help of over-the-counter allergy medication, they should be tested as well.
